Discovering Spiritual and Mental Health

Health and wellness is comprised of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual elements. Professionals in the field are in a position to create and utilize tools to aid in discovering the current level of health and wellness within a community, more attention needs to be placed on the spiritual and mental aspects of wellness. Processes to unveiling the truth about the psychological and spiritual strength don’t have to be extremely complex, especially when rapport and a openness set the tone for discovery. In the HW 420 course (Creating Wellness: Psychological and Spiritual Aspects of Healing), creating a questionnaire that sets a standard for the path of discovering mental and spiritual levels and the reasoning for the utilization of set questions was the focus of the final assignment. The below link reveals questions that I would utilize in my discovery of mental and spiritual wellness.

Professional Resource Tool

Health and wellness is a diverse field that is constantly growing, so it is important as a professional to have resources to go to for education and remain current in the field. Creating a resource tool that covers an array of health and wellness topics from a management of stress perspective will be utilized for personal and professional use. The professional resource tool is provided through the link below.

Resource List: Contemporary Diet and Nutrition

The abundance of information regarding contemporary diet and nutrition is a good balance of research and science, but it may be difficult for the public to choose what resources are reliable and will provide information that motivates them into a positive behavior change. Health professionals are tasked with the responsibility of being a resource for the community for guidance to right information about diet and nutrition, and the resource list I have provided does just that. Obesity, food borne illness, and organic vs. conventional foods are the main topics of the resource list; information provided on all resources is for consumers and professionals.

Community Education: 20 minute Nutrition Presentation

Promoting community health is a focal duty of the health and wellness professional, and educating the public on the components that promote well-being is one of the fulfilling aspects of being a public health professional. Nutrition is a key component to living an energized, stress free, low disease risk, healthy, and fit life and I have prepared a power point presentation to shed light on and educate on the basics of nutrition. It is tough to get all of the science of nutrition into a 20 minute presentation, so the focus is on presenting easy to understand information that is easy to implement. The goal is to be a resource for the community I serve; population and professionals. The link below displays the Nutrition Basics presentation.

Fitness Program for Case Study

Unit 8 of the EF310 course was a focus on a case study; Carl. Carl is a young adult college student who is looking to build muscle and maintain his current level of fitness so he can continue to perform in intramural sports. Assessments were focused on the physical aspects of Carl’s lifestyle, so the PAR-Q a 12 min. run test where an estimated Vo2 max was measured, YMCA bench press test, sit and reach test, and body composition measurements were the foundation of the assessment process. The following fitness program is based on the FITT and PROS principles of exercise, so based on his current fitness level and goals the program was developed. Holistic assessment would have did more evaluation of Carl’s mental well-being as seen in measuring is level of change commitment, emotional well-being and spiritual well-being could be assessed by getting an overview of Carl’s support system and what is the emotional foundations of his lifestyle and how that has effected his food choices. Below is a link that displays the Unit eight EF310 assignment.
